Helen is a charming town in White County of 510, located in the Appalachian Mountains. After suffering an economic hit due to the decline in the logging industry in the late 60s, the town decided to reinvent itself as a replica of a Bavarian alpine town with all buildings being required to match the design style. Due to the unique look of the town, the main industry in Helen is tourism. A few of the unique events held here are Octoberfest featuring many German beers & restaurants, as well as the “Helen to the Atlantic Balloon Race and Festival” held in June where hot air balloons race from Helen to the Atlantic Ocean. There are so many Hot Spots to see & do including touring one of the many vineyards, horseback riding at Chattahoochee Stables, hunting for gemstones at Dukes Creek Mines, sampling fabulous German cuisine, and enjoying a lazy day river rafting!
